Statistical Discrimination

A very obvious type of discrimination in today's society is what is known as Satistical Discrimination, which involves labor markets and the way they they hire or do not hire individuals. When someone applies to a job opening, ofentimes the person in charge if hiring will decide who to call into an interview based on things like race and gender. As terrible as this sounds, if happens quite often. By looking at the person's first and/or last name, the one hiring can usually tell if this peson is male or female, and sometimes they can tell what race or ethinicity this person may be. This type of discrimination plays on stereotypes. For example, in our society White and Asian people are often believed to be more capable. In addition, males tend to be more desired when it comes to filling a position. I chose the above image because it could be taken anyway the reader would like to take it. It could represent a person of color or a woman who is not being given an opportnity at a job opening.
