Avoidant Style & Storge

A Walk to Remember is about two people who have completely different lives, but they end up falling for each other in the end. Shane West plays a tough guy in the movie and Mandy Moore plays an innocent church girl. Shane asks Mandy for help with his school studies and that is when they started to hang out more and got to know each other. He saw the best in her when all the other kids made fun of her. In the end they fell in love and he realized she was sick.

This would be a good example of the "avoidant style" theory. Mandy's character is often shy and uncomfortable being around others. She finds it hard to trust people easily. It took her a long time to even realize that she had feelings for Shane's character. It was not until he confronted her that she finally gave in.

This would also be a good example of Lee's styles of Love regarding "storge" love. They became friends first without having an initial physical attraction. After spending a lot of time together, they had a mutual trust between themselves. Love developed slowly for them and they had a lot of respect for each other despite their differences. They found contentment in one another's company.

  1. Stenbergs triangular theory and eros
The Notebook is about an old man who is telling his real love story to his wife that does not remember, he tells him how they first met and how they fell in love. Allie was a rich, beautiful young girl from the city who falls in love with Noah a kid from the wrong side of the tracks, poor, country boy. Their relationship is tempestuous and passionate, but ultimately circumstance drives them apart. Fast forward several years later and Allie is engaged to another man. When she sees Noah in the newspaper, she knows she has to see him again and drives back to where they first met. The years haven't dimmed their attraction and they fall hopelessly in love all over again.

This would be a good example of the Stenberg’s triangular theory of love. The couple share all 3 characters intimacy, passion, and commitment. Even though the characters did not do it in specific order they experienced all three throughout the movie.

This would also be a good example of Lee's styles of Love regarding "Eros" love. They began with a strong attraction to each other right away as well as a physical attraction. After spending a lot of time together, they knew so much about each other and were almost inseparable spending all their time together. Noah was in love at first sight.
