Developmental Theory/Life Course Theory

I feel that the Developmental Theory/Life Course Theory is the best theory to describe family and marriage.  As people grow and mature, they go through different stages where they develop different characteristics and learn from experience.  An example of this is children who learn to walk and talk, adolescents who go to school and learn the appropriate behaviors in society, and a teenager who acts out with their parents and then learns from mistakes.  Then there is the stage where one matures in adulthood and is able to think back and understand why things they did where they were younger were so ridiculous.  Of course, those who choose to take the path of marriage and parenthood also go through their own stages like living with their spouse and having a first child.  All these experiences are due to different sets of tasks an individual feels he or she has, which can lead to the eight stages of the Developmental Theory.
