Feminist Theory

Feminist Theory is closely related to family and marriage. It describes the inequality of the power structure within the family. Your gender role basically dictates your responsibility within the family or marriage. In a stereotypical family, the male's job is your average 9-5er as oppose to the typical housewife whose job consist of an average work schedule (if she has one) and also the job she has of taking care of the household as well. Even though the responsibilities are disproportionate the male is entitled to making the major decisions. I chose this picture because it accurately portrays the reality of everyday life. In this scene we see Homer relaxing on the couch after a "hard" day's work while Marge continues to maintain order in the household such as cooking, cleaning, and caring after the kids which is a full-time job, 24 hours of the day. The fact that she is smiling in the picture shows that as a society we accept this reality and condone the misappropriation and uneven distribution of power in the family.
