"Women spent more time doing each of the activities than did men. Women
spent an average of 6.3 hours more per week doing household activities
than did men (15.5 versus 9.2 hours) and 2.4 hours more per week
providing care to household members (4.4 versus 2.0 hours)."
Despite our efforts for gender equality throughout the workforce, we still see gender inequality in the home. Many of us can acknowledge men and women fit into roles society has shaped for them. Without meaning to, women can find themselves depending on men to do "hard labor" while we unknowingly move towards the nurturing figure that takes initiative in taking care of household members and making sure things are getting done or taken care of. Women find themselves working the infamous "double shift." We work to help provide for our family and then we come home to work for the needs of our family. Sadly, it's a never ending job that some men expect from their spouses. However, it saddens me even more when women who are bringing in the lesser income feel they need compensate by working harder in the home.
