Parenting Styles of Kohn:
Kohn felt that a parents work had a great affect on how that person parented. If the parent was of the working class then they valued conformity in their children and other traits that were ideal for the type of job their child would have one day. Upper class parents valued creativity and self-direction qualities that would be needed in their child's line of work, which most likely would call for these types of traits compared to the working class.
Parenting Styles of Baumrind:
Parenting Style 1: authoritative.
This style reminds me of my own mother's parenting style. This parent exerts major control over the child's life, but still offers the child choices. Although, controlling they are warm and receptive to their child's wants and needs. Parenting Style 2: permissive. These parents are passive in their parenting style. They engage in great communication with the child, however, they are lenient to a point where it is a disadvantage to the child. They do not teach nor expect responsibility from the child. Parenting Style 3: authoritarian. This style reminds me of " The Tiger Mom". These parents have high expectation for their children. They are quite strict and usually do not communicate well with their children. They also lack the warm and receptiveness found in the authoritative parenting style.
I prefer the authoritative parenting style overall. I feel this style provides a child with a balance of what they need to learn along with a sense of choice.
Parenting Styles of Lareau:
A parent's social economic class has a large part in what that parent can offer for their child. For example, a parent's income will outline where the child can afford to live, go to school, types of clothes and food attained, and in other activities like, sports or music lessons. Not being able to provide their children with an excess of material things these parents are quite concerned with their child's interests and abilities.
