Parenting Styles

Baumrind’s parenting style is composed of three different types of parenting styles: authoritative, permissive, and authoritarian. Authorities style expresses an understanding, flexible; kind parenting but it also demands respect and obedience from children. Permissive style expresses a negligent way of parenting, it demands no obedience and minimal interaction with child Authoritarian style demands total control over children, it tends to be cold and cruel which at times uses corporal punishment to express authority.

Lareau’s has two parenting styles, Concerted cultivation and Accomplishment of natural growth. Concerted cultivation evaluates the children’s interests, along as fostering the child. Accomplishment of natural growth provides shelter, food but minimal development.

Kohn’s parenting style is composed of two key components, Conformity and Self-direction. Conformity demands strict, coordinated, supervision over the individual. Self-direction expresses demanding development and child’s motives.

I believe the best parenting style that gives a more accurate understanding on the ways in which children is best expressed by Baumrind. Baumrind describes two polar opposite but also describes the in-between parenting style. I believe that Authorative way is the most proper approach in raising a child. It expresses kind nurturing, lenience but also control.
