Lee's Style of Love (Mania)/
Steinberg's triangular theory of love (Romantic)
Wedding Crashers
Wedding
Crashers is a comedy which follows two bachelor/friends John and Jeremy (played
by Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn) who attend random weddings in hopes of meeting
girls. When attending these wedding's neither character has the intention of
falling in love but both friends end up doing just that. At one of the wedding's they attend they manage to get invited to
spend the weekend with the bride's family pretending to be acquaintances. John
and Jeremy are introduced to two sisters of the bride Gloria and Claire. But
while managing to trick everyone around them about who they really are they
cannot deny themselves about the way they feel about the sisters they have
met.
Lee's
Style of Love- Mania
In
"Mania" style of love is expressed as being possessive and needy of
the other person. This type of love is generated through a false sense and fear
of rejection by the other person. So behavior is seen as erratic and manic in
order to ensure that the feeling of love from the other person will stay.
In the
Movie the Wedding Crasher's Jeremy catches the eye of one of the sister's
Claire, who is wooed by his words. Although he just wants to sleep with her she
falls in love with his supposed vulnerability and as the weekend progresses she
becomes sexually obsessed with him and feels the need to be with him at all
times, and this is expressed in spontaneous behavior by her throughout the movie
where she manages to show up in the most unlikeliest of places. She also gets
very upset and maniacal if she feels he does not care about her or he hints
that he does not want to be with her. In the end Jeremy realizes he cares about
Claire and enjoys the "Mania" love she expresses towards him.
Steinberg's triangular theory of love- Romantic Love
Romantic love in the context of Steinberg's triangular theory is a
love characterized as having great amounts of passion and intimacy with little
commitment.
In the case of the love found between John and Gloria their love
began by getting to know each other over the family weekend getaway. Although
Gloria is engaged to get married she is unsure about it and confides in John
and throughout the weekend they continue to talk and get to know each other
this way. Although it was not the intention of either party involved a
connection ensues between John and Gloria throughout the weekend. The bonding
which developed between them also involved passion and the more they talked and
bonded the more attracted they were to one another which lead to romantic love
between them. John confessed his feelings to Gloria on Jeremy and Claire's
wedding and Gloria felt the same way so she left her fiancée for John.
